Time: 10-11am (if that session fills, one will be added from 2-3pm)
Targeted ages: 5-10 yr old boys
More about the class:
Boys ages 5-10 will get to explore dance and ballet movement to music and themes of the Nutcracker Ballet. There are so many fun roles for boys in the Nutcracker : the boys at the party, mischievous Fritz, the dancing soldier, the Nutcracker who saves the day, the dastardly mouse king, or the princes and kings of the Land of the Snow and Land of the Sweets.
Boys will enjoy learning the story, experimenting with these various movement styles and learning about elements of boys training, and seeing moves unique to male ballet dancing performed by Kai Casperson, aspiring professional dancer. Steffanie Casperson, teacher at CVCB and former dancer with Ballet West, will be present at and oversee the class.
More about Kai:
Kai was dancing before he was born - his mother completed her final professional performance on stage (and it was the Nutcracker!) when she was 20 weeks pregnant with him. Though he enjoyed ballet performances since he was old enough to go, he never wanted to take ballet classes because he 'would be the only boy.' That changed when he was 9 years old and saw Ballet West perform the Nutcracker. Since then, it's been Kai's goal to train to become a professional dancer.
He has received scholarships to attend summer programs with Ballet West in Salt Lake City and Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle. This is his second year on full scholarship at the Ballet West Academy. Ballet West has also asked Kai over the past two years to represent their school at the YAGP nation-wide competition.
